Your Painting tutors

Harry Westera

As a ‘Contemporary Realist’, Harry seeks to create images that express the wonderful in the ordinary. With keen observation and appreciation of light falling on forms he reveals the diversity and beauty of the landscape with simplified tones and fresh colour. Harry teaches students the skills needed to develop their own personal artistic expression.

He is passionate about painting en plein air experiencing each unique place and moment in time and distilling the essence of the landscape subject. Watercolour is the ideal medium for quickly capturing the freshness and light of nature, but Harry also enjoys painting and teaching in oil and acrylics.

Over the years, Harry has sketched and painted the historic buildings, picturesque laneways and piazzas, and the magnificent views of the medieval hilltop town of Perugia, situated across the Arno Valley from Assisi.

Harry trained in drawing and painting at the Julian Ashton Art School and has studied watercolour with premier Australian artists David Taylor, Joseph Zbukvic and Ross Paterson. He is a qualified Art Teacher with an honors degree in Art History and conducts many Adult Education classes and workshops in the Northern Rivers area of NSW.
