Italy tours and Aboriginal Art
Florence and remote Hermannsburg in the Central Australian desert might seem like worlds away. But for retreat facilitator, art tour guide and artist Simha Koether they’re not.
She’s equally at home in the birthplace of the Renaissance, or in Australia’s Central Desert, where Albert Namatjira famously painted, and where she worked for many years with a group of internationally renowned Aboriginal ceramists.
Simha Koether’s artistic heritage comes directly from two places where significant international art movements began – Florence and the Central Australian desert.
Her specialist arts retreat and tour company Vivid Tours International is a natural culmination of her lifetime’s body of work. Simha has a unique ability to bring together different worlds and cultures for everyone to enjoy. As the meeting place of art and travel, you can’t get closer to the source than this.
Not only is Simha Koether a retreat facilitator and tour guide, she’s an accomplished jeweler, ceramics teacher, curator and filmmaker.
Combine that with business savvy, a colourful entrepreneurial spirit, you get a spirited dynamo with plenty of creativity. And a bright, passionate woman who brings these skills to enhance your travel experience.
Her native tongue is English, but Simha’s fluent in Italian and Spanish and has a good foundation of Western Arrernte – an Aboriginal dialect, spoken by the Western Arrernte people of Central Australia.
Simha has qualifications in the Creative Industries – Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Jewellery Design and production methods and Financial Services.
Simha is fluent in the Italian language having lived and worked in Florence for 3 years. She studied art restoration and conservation at the Palazzo Spinelli Institute where she worked on 16 th century Renaissance paintings. She then studied jewellery design and production methods with the Art Institute of Florence and apprenticed under a master jeweller in the heart of Florence’s design quarter, producing designs for clients such as Armani.
Simha Koether’s experience with Artback NT’s (Northern Territory’s visual and performing arts touring agency) as its Visual Arts Manager, saw her developing and touring national exhibitions to remote Indigenous communities as well as regional and metropolitan galleries throughout Australia.
As Director of the film Stories in Our Songs – Indigenous Musicians of the Northern Territory saw her working with some of the most influential Indigenous musicians in the history of Aboriginal rock music in the NT.
Whilst working as Manager of the Hermannsburg Potters she trained the artists and oversaw the development of commissions and exhibitions, bringing their work from the remote Aboriginal community to the world.
Simha founded Vivid Tours International in 2014 to build on and share her unique knowledge and experience.
